To build a sustainable future and become a net-zero emissions society, we need to turn every industry upside down by replacing emission-heavy, fossil-based materials production with sustainable alternatives.
Although a part of the problem is consumption, which we need to reduce, we still need material, and need it to be sustainable.
A massive and important undertaking. Luckily, many ambitious companies are working on this. In this article, we'll cover 10 Swedish companies doing their part in the green materials transition.
Maybe one of these companies has a perfect job opening for you?
About: Conventional plastics are made of petroleum, causing pollution and stay in the environment for thousands of years. Grale is producing circular products crafted from plants such as cellulose, agricultural waste, forestry side streams, non-edible plants, starch and wood fibers. They are currently hiring for multiple positions in Stockholm. Are you the person helping them scale sustainable plastic substitutes?
About: As mentioned above, every industry needs to undergo a green transition, and Enginzyme is pushing the chemical industry towards sustainability. As they put it "we need the chemical industry, but we must change it". They are changing it by unlocking enzymes to ease the transition to greener, cleaner manufacturing. They're hiring in Stockholm!
About: Lignin is a by-product of the forest and agricultural industries. The company Lignin transform it by blending it with a biobased oil into thermoplastic granules, called Renol and mix it into a masterbatch that supports end products to be fully circular. They're hiring in the greater Stockholm area!
About: offers proprietary zinc-ion battery cells and packs for the renewable energy generation sector. Their sustainable, reliable, and cost efficient batteries enables a society powered by 100% clean energy. Based in the greater Stockholm area, keep an eye out for open positions at Enerpoly!
About: Working on sustainable electrification of fertilizer production. Their proprietary SUNIFIX is a low-emission solution for nitrogen fertilizer. Making it possible to have sustainable and efficient fertilizer production using only fossil-free energy, fueling the transition to resilient food systems. Look out for their job opportunities in Uppsala!
About: In their own words, SaltX is on a mission to erase industries’ dependency on fossil fuels. Their technology "reinvents the industrial process called calcination – a heating process used to heat materials to high temperatures". Their "electric plasma technology replaces fossil-driven heating with renewable electricity and separate the CO2 emissions released during the heating process". They're hiring in Stockholm, especially engineers!
About: Invented and produces their proprietary solar cell Powerfoyle, that transform any outdoor or indoor light into electricity. With a flexible design, the solar cells can be integrated seamlessly in attractive products. Look out for open positions in Stockholm!
About: Developing novel materials for sustainable industrial use. As an example, their "polymers for hydrogen infrastructure leak significantly less hydrogen, making them cost-efficient and good for the environment." Look out for open positions in Uppsala!
About: Syre is dewasting and decarbonizing the textile industry by "textile-to-textile" recycling, offering circular polyester. The textile industry is producing massive amounts of greenhouse gas emissions, with polyester being the most widely used and fastest-growing material, produced with crude oil. Syre says their circular polyester reduce the co2 emissions in production by 85%.
About: Their "hydrogen plasma reduction technology is redefining the extraction of critical raw materials." Their first use-case is to transform waste into ultra-pure silicon products, suggesting it will dramatically cut emissions. They're also dramatically hiring in Stockholm!
